Fun at the RiverPark: Rockin’ the Klamath Coming June 29th

13RockinTheKlamathJune29th
A week from Saturday, there will be another wonderful June day at the River Park, full of music! It’s time for the third annual Rockin’ the Klamath musical event at the River Park.

The afternoon will begin with the opportunity to share your talents with your friends and neighbors of the community, “Happy Camp Has Talent”. Can you sing? What instrument do you play? Can you recite a poem or share something else? This is your opportunity. We are all looking forward to seeing you there and hearing your talented performance at the River Park pavilion on that day.

The winning performances will give an encore after the Jam Session. All you musicians need to come for the Jam Session.

Ponderosa Breeze, an Oregon band that you may be following on Facebook as they play at the Greek Place in Ashland, will be playing.

Headliner is the Spiro Kings who will be returning because they were enjoyed so much when they were with us in 2011 at Rockin the Klamath. Here comes the opportunity to have a great night out at the River Park.

There is the Raffle for an inflatable Kayak that comes with paddle, pump and life vest. You can get your tickets in the Chamber Office for $1 each, or for a limited time only 15 for $10. Can’t you just think how much you will enjoy a cool kayak floating down the creek on a hot summer day? Sounds like delightful fun! This grand prize was donated by Klamath River Resort Inn just a couple miles upriver from Happy Camp, right on the River! If you are more into games, there’s a play station music “thingy” to win, or a cast Bigfoot footprint donated by our local Bigfoot hunter, Javabob Schmalzbach. Ron and Rosemary Boren have donated entrance to Bike Rally which has a value of $55 also. So, come into the Office and see what your pleasure is in the wonderful opportunities in this raffle!

The Happy Coordinating Council will be fundraising for the Bigfoot Jamboree by running the Beer Booth and having hamburgers and some yummy baked goods also. There will be Quick Dogs and Dolly’s Deli also serving something for your picnic lunch as you listen to all the musical performances.

There will also be other vendors and more than ever before have planned to come so please thank our vendors. I didn’t get much chance to look at all the beautiful Happy Camp Jade and other jewelry that Rich Kelly had on display a couple of weeks ago at the Art & Treasure Klamath Yard Sales so looking forward to more time to look at the beautiful things he has created.

All together it will be a lovely day in the Park in Happy Camp,Saturday, June 29th from noon to midnight.

Government to Government Coordination on the River

Wednesday evening was also a Happy Camp Coordinating Committee of Government to Government meeting. The panel there was from the Forest Service, Community Services District, Fire District and Happy Camp Elementary School as well as Buster Attebery from the Karuk Tribe.

The importance of getting input during comment opportunities about proposed Forest Service projects was emphasized. Buster Attebery, Tribal Chairman, shared that the 2010 Ordinance makes consultation with the Tribe not only desirable, but they “must” consult with the Tribe.

Several projects and possible shut downs of local sales were discussed and will be further researched. It was appreciated how tribal ecological knowledge and that of other local long time residents would be invaluable to the successful efforts to improve the forests for the vegetation, wildlife habitat, jobs and fire safety. The heavy load of forest fuels for coming fires in the dry summer seemed to be a universal a concern of all those participating.

Several questions were also asked about Siskiyou County Roads work from Bill Lahue. He mentioned that not being able to afford update equipment, and the price of materials like asphalt continue to rise. We may take the Road Department for granted, but it would be quite serious if we had no one to plow the roads when we have a serious snow incident such as we did at the end of December last year!

Tentative date for the next Coordination Meeting is June 25th at 6:30 at the Grange.

Jonny Wilson, Hanna Getz, Kira Keleher, Jonathan Yokoyana, Pieter Gustavson, Emilie , Emilie Cushman, Joseph Saler, Lance Hillman, Cody Anderson, Nicole Mayer, Evan Brown closed out Wednesday Vacation Bible Fun!

Please come back again!”
“Will you come next year??”
The Happy Camp Bible Church had an exciting three day Vacation Bible Extreme time this week, and the “campers” didn’t want it to end!
They were blessed with the arrival of ten students who had attended Humboldt University and the First Baptist Church of Arcata. The First Baptist had recently had its annual Mission Training for the Solid Rock Youth Group of college age young people. After the training, they prepared themselves and came to Happy Camp to put-on a fun time experience for children of all ages! A lady from the First Baptist painted painter tarp canvas with forest scenes with bear and owls and other wildlife, trees and cabin in the woods themes. There were clouds floating above the stage and the setting was ready.
They had real stories from the Bible, crafts, games and one of the girls even shared ballet steps with the youngsters. Jonny played the piano, providing good music for the singing. June Saler showed up for freshly baked brownies which topped with ice cream were the refreshments at the close of the Vacation Bible Sessions, and the youngsters expressed the wish that it would continue. It was neat to have the young people here!

Pastor Stan Poeschel is the pastor of the Happy Camp Bible Church hosting the young people for this occasion.

P,K.Halinan teaches, “What are doing here?”

13PKHalimanPic
P.K. Hallinan spoke at the happy Camp Christian Fellowship at the Elementary School Gym last week. The question that was the theme of his teaching was, “What are you doing here?” This is the first of three Sundays when P.K. will be with us while Pastor Kirk is not here.
P.K.is a pastor in a Christian Fellowship by Ashland, Oregon, but is also well known as a writer and illustrator of books. His cheerfully illustrated little story books for youngsters aged 3 to 6 are enchanting. “Heart Prints” is one of his books and he has just finished writing about sisters.. Actually he is the author of 85 children’s books covering topics of inspiration, friendship, love, relationships and life values.
He began by telling the story of the bear in the forest and the atheist and then turned to I Kings 19:9 about Elijah the prophet. First we looked at the events of 857 BC when Elijah had a great victory over the prophets of Baal and God answered his prayer and consumed the sacrifice on the altar. After that great and glorious victory, he ran and hid in a cave from Jezebel. Why when he faced 450 men who worshiped Baal would he run from one woman?
God asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?” Elijah doesn’t answer the question, he makes the claim, which will later be proven false, that he is the only one left. He also tells God that they are seeking his life. God has him rest and eat. On the strength of that food he is able to go forty days.
Then there is the wind, earthquake, raging fire, but God was not in the wind, God was not in the earthquake, God was not in the raging fire, but God was in the still small voice and He asked again What are you doing here?
God tells Elijah that He still has 7000 who have not bowed their knee to Baal or kissed him. He gives him a job to do, to anoint of Judah and Jehu of Israel and appoint Elisha as prophet after Elijah is gone.
At Green Springs Inn in Ashland they had all the pastors gather and they came to get straightened out and spiritually encouraged. The question is “Why did God call you?” Joseph told his brothers, that although they meant selling him into slavery for evil, God meant it for good to save much people, in fact all of Joseph’s family as well as other nations.
God is in the soul saving business! He cleanses us from sin by His atoning sacrifice. He places His Holy Spirit in the believer and He transforms us into His own likeness. The only way that God has chosen to take this message to lost world is by the means of believers. How do we save much people alive? He wants us to be as much like little Christs as possible.
In “More than a Carpenter”, Josh McDowell said about his hatred for his alcoholic, abusive father when his life changed, “:Love so strong, it turned hate upside down.”
Josh’s father came to him and said, “Son, How can you love a father like me?”
Just the way they are
God looks like Love, God doesn’t’ look like rules, God doesn’t look like a lecturer, God doesn’t’ look like an assignment, smiles, laughs, kind eyes, Love, God looks like Love.
People see God in us when they see Love.
All I want you to do is love people.
They are not saved by arguments, clever tricks, etc.
In “A Life that Matters” money doesn’t make me happy, fame doesn’t’ make me happy…etc
So, what do I do? I need Jesus
Chosen specifically and intentionally to love people like Jesus
