Judy Bushy fell in love with the beauty of Creation along the Klamath River Valley and the friendly little town at the top of California, Happy Camp when moving here over forty years ago. She would like to share the many wonderful things about this special place where in some ways time has stood still and the beauty of forest, river and sky surround us. Yet modern technology is helpful and Computer Center is available to all of the community. It is a community that has built a log cabin school in 1933 so that our young people wouldn't have to leave to continue their education, and can still do remarkable things working together. In difficult times, our Klamath neighbors care!

Celebrate Resurrection Sunday morning Sunrise Service in Happy Camp!

This Sunday was Palm Sunday on the calendar of many churches. The day celebrates the day that Jesus rode a young donkey into the city of Jerusalem. People sang, “Hosanna” and laid palm branches on the road, so it became Palm Sunday. The week that was to come, he would fellowship with Lazarus (who was alive again) ate the last supper at Passover with His disciples, had times of prayer, was arrested, tortured through several hearings, and crucifixion.

The joyous celebration on the first day of next week, Sunday, is the Resurrection from death and the grave.

No one has been able to tell me when the tradition of Sunrise Service at the Happy Camp Airport to celebrate the Resurrection began. It began before the Christian Fellowship with Pastor Kirk Eadie was here. It began before the Assembly of God was built in 1973. As far back as I can recall, it was celebrated each year by the Happy Camp Bible Church. If anyone recalls when the practice began, I’d appreciate your input,

Since it has been going on a very long time, it is also inclusive of all who wish to celebrate the Resurrection and all are welcome.

This year Pastor Stan Poeschel of the Happy Camp Bible Church will open in prayer. Pastor Kirk Eadie, Alex, Abbye and Robyn will have their guitars and voices ready to make music. Pastor Bill Estes of the Assembly will bring a message. All are welcome and encouraged to come. It is at 7:30 up at the Happy Camp Airport on Sunday morning!!

Following the outdoor service all are invited to potluck breakfast at the Assembly of God Church in Indian Meadows. Since it is potluck, bring a breakfast dish to share with everyone.

There were plans for an Easter Egg Hunt and I’m sure that will be fun for all the children. However, I’ve been unable to find out what the time is for the Hunt to begin. My memory is stuck back in the days when the Happy Camp Lions Club had a big Easter Egg Hunt at the High School Football Field, and if you were just a tiny bit late, the children had been released and rushed to find all the eggs and you might just miss out! So I don’t want to misinform you of the time or place. As soon as I find out, it will be posted on the Happy Camp, CA Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for those of you who have Facebook. Hopefully we will post on the bulletin boards as well.

2012 Ladybug friends had fabulous fun in the Bigfoot Jamboree Parade!

2012 Happy Camp LadyBugs: Dinah, Bonnie, Rusty, Leona and Terri had such a fun time in the Bigfoot Jamboree parade!

Remember all the fun with family and friends last Bigfoot Jamboree!?!?!? Ladybugs had a really fun time!

Well,all that fun doesn’t “just happen!” The Happy Camp Coordinating Council has begun getting ready. Thursday evening meeting at the Pizza House they met to begins to plan Bigfoot Jamboree for this Labor Day weekend 2913.

Linda Zink, Sammi Offield, and Abigail Yeager were on hand to talk about what new and exciting things will be happening at this years Bigfoot jamboree!!

They will also be helping the Happy Camp Chamber of Commerce put on the fabulous concert at the River Park Saturday, June 29th hosting the Beer Booth and Bake goods to raise funds for the best Bigfoot jamboeree ever!!

Next meeting of the Happy Camp Coordinating Council to plan Bigfoot Jamboree will be April 3rd at the Pizza House at 6 PM. They’d really appreciate all the hard working volunteers who want to see it happen!!

Don’t forget the Community Solutions and Neighborhood Watch Meeting at the Log Schoolhouse on Monday, March 11th. This is an area that we all have a stake in keeping our children drug and alcohol free and keeping our community crime free! Deputy Nye has been a great help and volunteers are needed as are those who will help take the next step at the coming meeting. Call Doreen for more information at FRC 493-5117

Happy Camp Coordinating Council, those hard working volunteers who plan the Bigfoot Jamboree for Labor Day will also be meeting at the Pizza House at 5:30 to make plans.

Narional Volunteer Week isn’t until April 21-27th and I remember when Eddie Davenport was president of the Chamber and each organization gave recognition to their top volunteers at a picnic in the River park. However, any time of year is a good time to thank all our volunteers!!

Whether it be the Grange, Chamber, Family Resource Center, Community Solutions and Neighborhood Watch, or other organizations in Happy Camp; to have our community healthy and growing we all must pitch in and help out where we can.
Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed?
Or are you just contented that your name is on the list?
Do you attend the meetings and mingle with the flock?
Or do you stay at home to criticize and knock?
Do you take an active part to help the work along?
Or are you satisfied to only just belong?
Do you work with your committee and get right in and mix?
Or leave the work to just a few and talk about the cliques?
Think it over, member–you know right from wrong!
Are you an active member or do you just belong?

Karuk Art & Culture Exhibit is Coming!

People’s Museum

A very special exhibition of Karuk Art and Culture is coming to Happy Camp! This is called the Pieepkaru Payeem or Long Ago and Today. There will be a reception to celebrate the visiting museum exhibit at the Karuk People’s Center 64236 Second Avenue in Happy Camp on Saturday, February 9th from 1 to 3 p.m.

Also, there will be a Grange Prime Rib Dinner for Valentine’s Day, February 14th.Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.There will also bew door prizes. You know the Grange food is always delicious!! The price goes to a good cause as the Grange is always serving the community and is a standby for gatherings like weddings and funerals and other meetings in the community.
Tickets are $15 per plate,and must be purchased in advance by February 10th. You can get your tickets from Ruth Bain, Bob & Norma Seaman, Marble Mountain Gift Co. or H.C. Community Service District.

There will also be a Sweethearts Dance for 7th through 12th Graders at the Headway Building.

Happy Camp District Ranger Tom Mutz at Meeting to Discuss Goff Fire

Before Christmas there was a meeting to discuss the Goff Fire Healthy Forest Restoration Act Project. The Project deals with the area of last year’s Goff Fire near Seiad Valley.

The next meeting is Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Seiad Valley Fire Department located at 44601 Highway 96, Seiad Valley, CA. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to make recommendations and share relevant information with our.

Forest Service workers who must plan and develop the purpose and propose actions for the project. The collaboration process is intended to be a problem-solving process in which a diverse group of interested parties work together early and throughout the planning process to develop widely supported solutions to questions of concern. February Events

Another coming event is the Valentine’s Community Market on February 14th. Last year Kathy Harvey had flowers and plants as well as her beautiful photography and special Valentine treats for the Community Market by the Chamber office. Maria Straus had delicious cheesecakes also, yum! See the Chamber Office weekday afternoons if you have gift ideas for sweethearts on this special day that you’d like to put up a table for the Valentine’s Community Market.

Ruth Bain said that the Grange is also planning a dinner for that special day. So be sure and ask your Sweetheart out to dinner to celebrate Valentine’s day. It will be here before you know it!

Happy Camp High School in Snow

Just in case some of the students are feeling very lonesome due to the extended time away from the halls of their school, here is a photo of Happy Camp High School.

Winter break began a day early with snow causing the Elementary School Program Thursday December 20th and the last day of school Friday, December 21 to be canceled. After more snow in the following days, some areas of Happy Camp reported three feet of heavy wet snow. this caused tree limbs, and even large trees to fall, power lines down, and loss of electricity for various times, some over a week.
