A Loyal Friend

Read by Pastor Blue on Morning Inspiration 3/22/12

No Matter where you are, my friend,
And no matter where you go,
My heart is always with you.
And I want you to know
That you are always in my prayers!
And everything you do
Brings me so much happiness, whenever I’m with you.
You never try to make me angry
and you are there when I am sad.
Because you are the best friend
That I have ever had.

Homecoming Festivities!

Homecomeing King & Queen

The exciting climax of the Happy Camp High School Homecoming week was three basketball games with Butte Valley Friday evening. It really looked like the boys would catch up when they got within 4 points but Butte Valley pulled ahead. They were good games and the kids did a great job. The parents were busy manning the hamburger stand serving food to hoards of hungry spectators.
Then came the crowning of the Homecoming royalty! Last years royalty, Florence Peters and Ronnie Reed crowned the King and Queen.
Stephanie Murphy was the Princess for the Freshman class. Stephanie’s escort was Justin West. Stephanie loves to hang out with her family and friends and go swimming. Stephanie would like to see a music store in Happy Camp and a music class added to HCHS classes. The freshman class prince, Zachary Walter was escorted by Carly Hammon. Zach likes football and basketball but his favorite sport is wrestling and he likes to go mining with his dad. Zach would like to see wrestling added to classes at Happy Camp High. He’d also like to see a movie theater in Happy Camp.
Sophomore Princess was Melissa Bragg, who was escorted by her brother, Will. She would like to open a Mall in Happy Camp and see culinary arts added to the high school curriculum. Alexander Eadie was the Sophomore Prince. Alex walked with his sister Abbey. Alex’s hobbies are playing music, hunting fishing and anything outdoors. He likes to play basketball because it is intense and energizing. He participates in sports, 4-H and church. His positive attitude is his best character trait. Alex would like to see a better sports program and music at HCHS and see a YMCA in Happy Camp. He would like to become an Air Force pilot after high school.
Junior Princess was Bridget Koons escorted by Corey Barnett. One of Bridget’s hobbies is cosmetology and she’d like to open a beauty salon in Happy Camp. At one time Happy Camp had three beauty shops in town and now we have none. Bridget likes to play volleyball and softball and participates in the executive student council. She would like to see a home economics class at Happy Camp High. Junior Prince, Kirstopher Nelson’s escort was his girlfriend, Shelley Hoskinson. Kris likes basketball, track and field and taking college classes while attending high school. He has a great work ethic and plans to go to medical school. His favorite high school memory is all three basketball seasons. He would like to see more Basketball games and weight training class.
The Senior Princess, Victoria Jones was crowned Homecoming Queen. Victoria’s escort was Joel who will be the lead in the new Drama Class production Anatomy of Gray soon. Victoria has been Student Body President for two years and likes to play volleyball, basketball and softball. A word that best describes Victoria is Serendipitous! After high school Victoria is planning to attend University and use her education to save the world. Her favorite movie is Lord of the rings. Victoria would like to see a pawn shop in Happy Camp and Mandarin Chinese taught at the high school by Jackie Chan and a defensive arts class. Victoria said she is inspired by her mom because she is strong, intelligent, crazy and a unique amazing person. She is the most selfless and caring woman Victoria has ever met.
Senior Prince, Justin Wright, was crowned Homecoming King. Justin was escorted by Sinead Talley. Justin loves to be active in sports and play video games in his free time. He participates in all the sports that HCHS has to offer and likes basketball but his favorite sport is Football. He is planning to go to community college after high school and play football. Justin is most inspired by his mom because she always says inspiring things to motivate him. He would like to see a sports shop in Happy Camp and a home economics class at the high school.
Happy Camp has the English, Math, Science and Social Studies classes and electives like art and drama, but the best is the Karuk Language and Culture Class. It would be wonderful if the students could have it every day a week. Learning language is hard one day a week but the students help each other learn. When you learn a person’s language you learn so much about them because you see what they value and think about. It is really a most interesting class!

Home Coming is Coming!

Last week was full of basketball at Happy Camp High School and now Homecoming is coming up! That means lots of fun for the kids, and a busy time for us all. Last week besides the games, there was a basketball clinic put on for improving their skills.

For the Freshmen students the candidates for Homecoming royalty are Steffi Murphy and Zack Walters. They want everyone to dress as Senior Citizens next Monday. The Sophomores who will be voted on for Homecoming are Alex Eadie and Melissa Bragg and Tuesday will be Beach Party Day. Next Wednesday the Junior have suggested Crazy Dress Up day and their royalty candidates are Bridget Koons and Kris Nelson. the Seniors are planning SWAG Day, and asking the classes to dress with the letters from that word: Freshman dress in things with S, Sophomores dress in things with W, Juniors will be in things with A
and the Seniors will be with G things. Royalty candidates from the Seniors will be Victoria Jones and Justin Wright. Of course next Friday is Blue and Gold Day with a Pep Rally at 11:30am. should be a very busy week for the students.

Siskiyou Alliance Meets for the New Year

It seems as if we have had quite a few trips out of town lately for dentist and such, but Tuesday was a very pleasurable meeting with the Chamber Alliance at the Siskiyou County Economic Development offices in Yreka . The Chamber Alliance sort of replaces the old Associate Chamber of Commerce where all of the Chambers of Commerce of the county got together on a regular basis to find out how we could work together. I well remember a great luncheon meeting at Oak Bar along the Klamath where we met a few years ago. It was fantastic to become acquainted with that historic lodging that shouted out the history those walls had seen in the past. There are so many charming spots in our county that we are unaware of and truly are gems to find!

At the meeting Tuesday, Marie from Mount Shasta began the meeting with introductions all around and it was a joy to see represented, Mr. Shasta, Yreka, McCloud as well as Happy Camp. Marie came down to Happy Camp to meet with the board of directors of our Happy Camp Chamber of Commerce to assist with a number of legal questions and bylaw revisions and has always been such a help to our small chambers. We are looking forward to a spring gathering of Chamber Alliance in Yreka for further training. In the summer, when Jim Mullins’s Mt. Shasta Ski Park is less busy, we hope to have a gathering in Mount Shasta and October they may come to Happy Camp for a meeting, according to the tentative schedule. We will be so delighted to have members of the Chambers from all over the county come and visiting us and October it is a beautiful drive along the river!

The last mixer in Weed was a good place to chat with folks from Weed and other Chambers and we missed not seeing any of those friends had been able to make the Yreka meeting this week. Siskiyou Daily News was well represented and shared how they help businesses which was encouraging. I remember when the Happy Camp Chamber held ribbon cuttings for many a new business in town and we are always happy for the opportunity to share in the celebration of a new business as well as any other positive happenings in the business community!

There were also three representatives who sit on the board of Collier’s Information and Interpretive Center, Grace Bennet, Suzanne Birch and Marie truly a asset for out communities down the Klamath River highway! They are on their way to becoming a California Welcome Center which is quite logical as they do serve to welcome all the travelers coming south along Interstate 5 from Oregon. The traffic that they get stopping at the Center and the rest area probably is the highest concentration of travelers in the county with whom we can share the news of all the wonderful activities and things to do and see in our County!

Other Chambers in the county appreciate their volunteers and no chamber has better volunteers than the Happy Camp chamber!! We discussed starting an Ambassadors program at the Tuesday night meeting after the Chamber Alliance. We also discussed the Spaghetti Dinner at the Grange March 6th. All of the business owners are most welcome to come. there will be Business Fair from 5 to 7 while food is served and then the annual business meeting begins at 7 o’clock so mark your calendar! The board voted to keep the dues the same as last year, $50. This was a difficult decision as some felt it should be raised to account for the new office space and opportunities to share their promotional materials with more visitors to our community, but in light of the difficult times we are living in, the board kept it the same.
Suzanne Birch from Enjoy Magazine shared a gift box of goodies from the Enjoy store in Redding as she also told us about Marketing opportunities through the magazine which covers the north state.

Brave Heart WestCoast in Yreka

Dennis Day mentioned that he had been to an event Saturday in Yreka where featured speakers were Sheriff John Lopey, Jim Wilson and Paul Crites. “They all, dynamically with eloquence , offered heartfelt inspiration. I appreciate having the right and privilege to speak out and reiterate that : “It is time to rise up , folks,” These speakers did not just hope for a transformation , they all offered profound insights from which to proceed, according to Dennis. We in Siskiyou county are especially fortunate to have a Sheriff – the Caliber of John Lopey. His talk was uplifting and encouraging. The other featured speakers followed suit. All were dynamic and eloquent, and the music was joyful.

This event was presented by BRAVE HEART WEST COAST. These Inspired Mavericks not only would like to see a renewal – a restoration and a rebuilding of a great Vision, but also sincerely believe that it is our natural birthright to reclaim it. They all displayed faith and trust in the fruition of such a Vision. It was a great honor to have attended! …. braveheartwestcoast.org ,” according to Dennis. Sheriff Lopey will also be in Happy Camp for the next government to government Coordination meeting next Monday at the Grange.

There will also be a meeting at the Grange in coming days with Department of Fish and Game and other speakers who will explain some fish situations. It is a hallmark of Happy Camp that we all care deeply about our natural world and appreciate the wild country in which we live. that is why most of us moved here, not for prosperity, or entertainment, but for the same things that people around the world come here to see as they raft the Klamath, bike our highways, and backpack our wilderness!
