Wildfire predominates during Rockin’ the Klamath

Cliff Mann

Happy Camp is grateful to FireFighters
Cliff Mann shared this sentiment Sunday!

Dillion Fire was the news in Happy Camp Friday.
Containment lines on the Dillon Fire held Saturday night despite strong winds causing a few flare ups inside the lines. So Dillon Fire was reported to be 80% contained and full containment was expected Monday. The Dillon Fire was ignited Friday alongside California Highway 96 approximately 15 miles southwest of Happy Camp. It involved many small roadside fires over a 20 mile stretch of highway that caused the closure of Highway 96 from Ti-Bar to Coon Creek so Rockin’ the Klamath concert goers coming up that stretch of road had to change their plans about coming to the concert. . They had 8 Type 1 crews, 3 Type 2 crews, 5 helicopters, 14 engines, 6 water tenders, and 1 bulldozer fighting the fire which is over 300 acres. Dry lightning was expected and crews were on standby should any new fires get started.

Sunday. Cliff Mann was standing outside the Forest Service on Highway 95 in Happy Camp holding a large sign saying “Thanks” to the Firefighters. That expressed the feelings of most of Happy Camp. Our firefighters and their support personnel do a great job keeping us safe from the possibility of dire results of wild fires in the forest. Thanks! And Thanks to Cliff for letting them know how much we appreciate them! Cliff is originally from the Salmon River area and has returned to the Klamath recently.

Next Saturday is the third Green Apple Putting Tournament under the giant Dream Catcher in Happy Camp. Tee Time is exactly 9:03 at the Giant Dram Catcher at the end of Davis Road. You bring your own natural branch putter, this naturally occurring putter is required. Entrance fee is a quarter at the registration desk. Dennis Day has announced that the winner will receive keys to a Buick.

July Joys!!

Bill Roberts composed a new poem for the occassion at the Hoover family flag raising!

By Judy E. Bushy

July began with flag raising on the Fourth of July! What a wonderful time to celebrate Independence Day with some of our Klamath Neighbors we hadn’t met earlier! The Hoover family in Fort Goff had a fun gathering of family and friends for raising the Flag!! See photo on Community page. Did you see the pictures of Ruth Bain’s retirement there also?

This is the time for wonderful outdoor family fun, so take a ride down the beautiful Klamath River highway on either of the two Scenic Byways. Happy Camp is the junction of State of Jefferson Scenic Byway and the Bigfoot Byway, where the “wildlife watches you!!”

Take your camera with you for fun and you are bound to see something of beaury to catch a picture!!

Hundreds of visitors come to Happy Camp at this time of year for Rafting on the Klamath River. You won’t want to miss a dip in one of our creeks or a chance to travel down the Klamath by raft!!

Perhaps, like many who come here, you’d like to prospect. The New 49ers can educate you on the joys of recreational gold mining. They now have videos on the Internet!

It’s not too long before the concert Rockkin’ the Klamath will be here on August 4th. It begins at noon with the HAPPY CAMP HAS TALENT portion of the entertainment. Art & Treasure Weekend 2012 best yet!

Second weekend in June is Art& Treasure Weekend along the wild and scenic Klamath River. We enjoyed many visitors to town, from Collinsville and Cottonwood to Grants Pass. The Greyback Road over the hill was open. Many came from Takilma and Cave Junction, Grants Pass and Medford for the Art & Treasure Weekend. There were thirteen who had ads on the Siskiyou Daily News announcement that brought people down the Klamath River. There were at least four more yard sales, a barn sale, an estate sale, flea market, Gardening sale at Parry’s and other unannounced activities also.

Highlight in Happy Camp was the Library Fair!! I always love looking at the books as they have such a great choice for summer reading at these things. They also had a raffle and some of the items our crafts people made were wonderful!

Barbara Farrell reported that Klamath River Community Hall Had a fabulous day yesterday….”we had about 15 vendors, either crafts people or flea marketers. Fabulous entries in our Art Show. Great food sales….all in all a wonderful day. Probably the best opportunity to work together and get better acquinted!”

Thank you, Cathleen Searle, for all the work you did on this event, especially running all over Scott Valley the preceding weekend to spread the news. Thanks to all who went in every direction putting up the fliers and posters and all who participated, sellers and customers!

It was a beautiful day for the event and we had a great time visiting with all our visitors. All out Klamath Neighbors make this such a great place to live!

Blessings of Providence

Sunday Bob was saying how blessed we are to live in America! With all her faults, we still are are tremendously blessed. While around the world others suffer as martyrs, see their children suffer hunger and thirst….In gratitude, we are thankful and must remember, to whom much is given, much is required!

“And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters” says the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians 6:18

We all have earthly fathers.
Some are good while some have never been a father.
But, the Bible says, we have a Heavenly Father, Who is our real Father, Who truly knit you together in your mother’s womb, Who knows you by name, Who rejoices over you with singing, Who delights in you, Who longs to talk to you, Who has the best plans for your future, Who wants to guide you and provide for all your needs.

2012 Bigfoot Jamboree!!

It is coming!!

Bigfoot Jamboree is August 31 – September 2nd.

The Happy Camp Coordinating Council has been busy and are planning this years event. Mark your calender and out on your thinking cap. How will you participate this year. Will you be working in a booth to support your favorite organization? Will you have a beautiful float in the parade? Time to think ahead!
